Important Update

  • Update 1
    From November 30, 2024, a 30-day visa-free policy has been implemented for most European countries and Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Japan, Singapore, UAE ... At present, citizens from 64 countries can enter China visa-free.
  • Update 2
    China has upgraded the original 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit to 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit for 54 countries including the UK, the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico … Also, the travel scope has been widen to 24 provinces of China and crossing provincial boundaries is allowed.
  • Update 3
    Due to the signed agreement on mutual visa exemption between China and the Independent State of Samoa, ordinary passport holders from Samoa are granted 30-day visa-free entry to China since April 2, 2025.

Visa Application

To apply for a China visa, you need to complete an application form attached with your recently-taken color photo, prepare a valid passport, and submit them along with other supporting documents to China Visa Application Service Center, Chinese embassy or consulate which is in charge of your residence area. 1. Check whether you need a visa

An essential thing to do is to check whether you need a visa before starting the following process. As long as you are eligible for China's visa-free policies, you don't need the visa, but some documents like your passport, in and out transportation tickets and sometimes sufficient funds still need to be prepared for immigration check.

2. Check which visa you need to get

Based on your travel purpose, determine which visa you are going to get. Read China Visa Types to select one which suits you most. For tourists, the L visa is suitable.

3. How to apply a visa for China
  • Step 1: Fill in the China visa application form online, print it out, and sign it. Remember to choose the Chinese embassy or consulate, or Chinese Visa Application Centers (CVASC) in charge of your residence district.
  • Step 2: Collect other required documents.
  • Step 3: Visit the Chinese embassy or consulate-general or the CVASC which all provide walk-in service, submit your application and pay the fee. You will then be given a pick-up slip. The visa fee in some countries is paid when collecting the visa.
  • Step 4: Collect your passport and visa on the date shown on the pick-up slip. If you use mail service, just wait for your mail.

The best time to apply for China visa is one or two months before your departure date. Usually, a China visa is valid for only three months from the date of issue, which indicates that the earliest time you can apply is three months before your departure.
